The leather used is Buttero leather from Tuscany, Italy ā vegetable tanned, free from harmful substances, and so beautiful that you don't really want to hide it.
The leather comes from the food industry ā no animal is slaughtered solely for leather. We believe: If it's leather, then this is how it should be.

The outside is smooth and slightly shiny , while the inside is soft and sealed ā so nothing scratches or rubs. Whether your dog has short or long fur, this collar is comfortable to wear.
The edges? Sanded and sealed by handāso soft you'd want to wear it yourself.
Finally, each collar receives a natural finish of leather balm ā so that it is water-repellent and can easily cope with everyday life.
Rain isn't a problem. We only recommend something else for swimming.

The name of your furry friend is engraved in the center of the leather ā using a high-precision laser process , durable and weatherproof.
You can choose between several fonts ā simple, playful or elegant ā to suit your style.
Leather: 100% Buttero cowhide from Italy (Tuscany)
Tanning: Vegetable tanned, chrome-free
Thickness: approx. 2.8 mm (may vary slightly as it is a natural product.)
Exterior surface: Smooth, slightly shiny, sealed
Inside: Soft, also sealed for additional protection
Edges: Rounded, sanded and sealed by hand
Fittings: Black, silver and rose fittings made of steel, gold fittings made of brass

Waterproofing: Natural leather balm (wax/oil-based), water-repellent but not 100% waterproof. We recommend NOT using the collars and leashes while swimming, for example, at the beach in the sea or lake. Instead, remove them from the dog beforehand or use BioThane products as an alternative.

- Drying: After getting wet, always allow to air dry thoroughly ā not on the heater or in direct sunlight .
- Care: Use a natural leather balm regularly, ideally based on beeswax or vegetable oils .
ā This protects, cares for, waterproofs and keeps the leather supple ā without leaving any harmful residues.
ā Important: A good balm is harmless to animals and can even come into contact with the tongue without any concerns.

Vegetable-tanned leather is treated with natural tanning agentsāe.g., from bark, fruits, or leaves. It is free of chromium, aluminum, or synthetic chemicals.
This makes it particularly skin-friendly, environmentally friendly, and durable . Furthermore, it develops its own unique patina over timeāit ages naturally and becomes more beautiful with each passing year.
In contrast , chrome-tanned leather is faster and cheaper to produce ā but also less sustainable, often contaminated with harmful substances and not fully biodegradable.
Quite simply: transparency and trust.
We work with the Walpier tannery in Tuscany, which can provide us with precise evidence of the origin of each piece of leather ā all cattle come from the region.
Important for us: The animals are not slaughtered for the leather.
The leather is a byproduct of the food industry ā and none of it is wasted.
Unfortunately, we couldn't find a provider in Germany who could provide this evidence so credibly and openly ā so the decision was clear for us.
The exception here is the leather for our fat leather leashes. These come from Germany with appropriate certification.
Buttero is a high-quality, vegetable-tanned leather from Italy ā known for its strength, even surface and natural beauty.
It's a so-called Vacchetta leather (also used for very exclusive fashion brands, for example) that isn't dyed through, but rather refined with oils and aniline . This creates a subtle sheen and a vibrant surface.
Small irregularities are not a defect, but a sign of genuine naturalness. This is precisely what makes each collar unique.
The production of Buttero requires extensive know-how and state-of-the-art technology ā from temperature and humidity control to gentle processing. This is why it is considered one of the finest vegetable-tanned leathers in the world today.
We recommend caring for the collar about once a month with a high-quality, natural leather balm (e.g. beeswax-based) .
This protects against drying out, makes the leather supple, and keeps it water-repellent. Apply a thin, even layer of the balm to the exterior, allow it to absorb, and then wipe off any residue with a soft cloth.

No. Our leather is high-quality, and thanks to the vegetable tanning process, the odor is greatly reduced. That typical strong leather smell isn't present here.
